We bought the Thule Tahoe Rooftop Cargo Bag for a roadtrip from Texas to Florida.

1. The bag was easy to use, and the instructions were good.It attached right onto our roof rack with no probolem.I had read other reviews and knew to have safety pins (8 to be exact) to secure the excess strapping to the bag, or it will make noise while you're driving.

2. It rained on us part of the way down, but our luggage was inside plastic bags.The plastic bags did get wet, but our luggage was fine.I would say that the bag is weather resistant as claimed becasue there wasn't much water in the bag after the storm.

3. The bag produced drag, and it affected our gas mileage and gas was over $4.00 / gallon at the time.

4. Removing and putting on the bag at each of our stops wasn't a big deal.We only had 2 suit cases, and a toiletry bag in there - so it was a snap to get them out/in, and then the bag off/on.

The bottom line is that if you need extra space in your vehicle, don't have or want to spend the money on a hard top cargo carrier, and probably if you're not driving 1600 miles roun-trip (my opinion that this better for shorter trips) - then this bag is right for you.

Thule 3038 Podium Foot Kit for 460 & 460R Foot Packs (3038) Review

The low profile foot kit allows minimal height increase. I was able to keep the overall height with Thule Atlantis 1800 under 7 feet, and squeeze the car inside the garage.
I did noticed that in some cold days my sliding sunroof would stuck under the bar. However the convenience of entering the garage outweighes the underestimation of sunroof clearance.

Inertia Cross Town Economy Bicycle Pannier Pair - Black - 12000 Review

Very straight forward, no frills. One big V-shaped compartment with one smaller outside pocket. I ride my bike to work 2-3 times a week, and one of these panniers carries all I need: my shoes (granted, I wear a women's size 7) my clothes and my breakfast. I carry my wallet, keys, etc in the outside pocket. I've not tested it in the rain, but it's very easy to put on and take off and carry into work. I've used both panniers to carry picnic items, lots of room, doesn't get in the way when I pedal. Great product, great price.

I have been searching for a pannier that would stay on, which seems to be a problem with some of the other less expensive panniers. This one does the trick.It has a dual hooking system - two coated metal hooks that go on the rack, and a bungee cord on the back that attaches down below to keep it from jumping off.I go over tracks twice a day and it has not come off.It has a metal insert that you can pop up to keep the bags shape when in use (it has an inner clip to keep it in place), then it folds up when not in use (again it has an adjustable clip to keep it closed). You can slide the bag back on the rack to keep your feet from hitting it.I have a Amsterdam cruiser and it works just fine.The only down side is that there isn't a top to close off the bag (hence the four star instead of five star rating).It has a removable shoulder strap, which I just put in the bag to keep it from getting caught. It seems sturdy and durable and has enough room for a grocery bag if you care to use one. It is easy to remove, but I keep my on just in case I need it, as it isn't in the way when it's folded up.I bought one just to make sure I liked it and I'm buying another.

I bought this stand because it was the only one I saw that didn't contact the bike's frame, spokes, etc., just the rear tire.You simply back the bike into the wheel slots on the bottom of the stand, and the rear spring-loaded arm keeps the bike upright by holding the rear tire with tension.The arm folds down easily to make this stand highly portable.The only negative thing I can say is that the edges of the metal wheel slots where the tire sits can make a slight indentation on the tire, even if the bike sits for just a day or two.It's not a big deal, and it appears that the rubber rebounds so I don't think it would leave a permanent indentation on the tire anyway.I rectified this by putting a bit of black duct tape on the metal lip to soften it up some.Highly recommended.

I just used this carrier on a 1600-mile round trip from northern Illinois to North Carolina (on a 2005 Astro Van).On the return trip (September 14), we went through extreme hurricane force winds (aftermath from Hurricane Ike) of 75 MPH from all directions in Louisville, KY.The wind downed trees on the interstate, but the carrier held firmly and no rain entered despite an incredible amount of buffeting due to the winds.I was concerned that the sideways and up-and-down effects of severe buffeting might loosen the grips on the crossbar, but the grips were as tight when I arrived home as they were when I left home.I saw two top carriers that had separated from their vehicles and had been run over on I-65...that's how bad the wind was.

When I first got it it fit up well, but one of the saddles that sits on the cross rail broke.I called Thule customer service and they were very nice.They immediately sent four new saddles and said that I must have received one of their earlier units that had substandard saddles.They apparently discovered this recently and were very accommodating.I appreciate their fine customer service, although I am glad I had time to get the saddles before my trip.Suggest that you make certain that you have the most recent saddles.

The bag is nice and the size is great (and the no PVC is where Thule needs to head).... BUT... it ripped the first day I used it (had a stroller in it, and the seam ripped straight through) and it is definitely not 'weather-proof', it rained for only a few minutes on our trip and the inside items were wet. Probably a great bag for soft items in the desert... but not for all the time use...Come on Thule!Make a better PVC free bag!We know you can do it.

Louis Garneau 2010 Cambridge Bicycle Pannier Bag - 1493625 Review

Had a chance to get 2 when I purchased it locally, but at this price, I wanted to try out the one I purchased first... when I went back to get a 2nd one, it had sold out.

It has a laptop pocket (fits a 13" macbook/pro snugly), but a 15" laptop (ie, macbookpro) would fit snug in the main compartment.

The bag holds very well to our rear racks (the racks that come with our topanga kid bike seat), it just clicks in, and if you're paranoid you can tie down (though unnecessary).

The belt buckles can be a pain for quick access to the main compartment, but seem quite serviceable... we've used our bag for a year on and off (me for commuting occasionally, wife for shopping) and it's holding up fine.

When carried as a tote/handbag, it looks great, the handle requires the buckles to be secured, but I mainly use the shoulder strap and forget about buckles while I'm walking from the bike racks to my company gym.

One note: the way this bag is secured, you can't put the kids bike seat on at the same time.... wife and I have to switch off.

I get lots of questions from folks asking where I got this pannier, and I tell them about my local shop.

Thule Boxter Cargo Carrier Review

Ordered this in the blind off Thule's recommendation for my 2010 Volkswagen TDi Sportswagon and 2005 Honda Odyssey.The box was shipped via ground and arrived in great condition.I ordered the areo bars and feet for my new Sportwagon but have the sqaure bars on my Odyssey.The box fits both with easy and rides nicely on both vehicles.The nice feature that Thule did not, nor any of the websites that I used to conduct my research, play up how easy it is to put on, much less swap between two different vehicles.

On the bottom of the cargo box, there are sliding anchors that allow you to place the box on either type of bars.This was covered in the all of the videos and write ups I could find, but the interesting thing is that they slide to accommodate at a minimum of around 21" and a maximum 36" distance between the front and rear bars.So there is no need to have both vehicles setup the same or worry about having to reposition the feet.Once you have the box positioned, then you secure it to the bars by twisting the knobs inside the box.

Truly a well engineered piece of equipment like all the other systems and components I have purchased through Thule.I believe this box is well worth the money and am glad I went with this box over the Atlantis model.I certainly do recommend this box to others!

For the money...approx $300, you get a very reliable elliptical in the 1100HRA.

I took my time putting the thing together correctly, and as tight as I could get everything when I bought it a year and a half ago, and the thing is still tight as a drum.

A little squeaking developed recently and I was worried....greased the inner parts, to no avail....Then I discovered it was simply the foot platforms that were rubbing.A little white lithium under those platforms and presto, like new again.

Every time I've gotten into a steady 5x per week or so routine, I've been able to drop significant weight in no time.

It works.The trick is staying focused and motivated.

Documents that came with the bag stated it could only be returned in unused condition.It was in using the bag that I found it would not fasten securely, even falling off once.

So, I changed the fastening system.The fastening system consists of short velcro strips and plastic guides secured to short binding straps.First I cut off the velcro strips and the plastic guides.Then I extended the binding straps with purchased binding, and attached 3/4" side release buckles.The bag now secures firmly, and is easy to put on and off.

However, there are lots of other bags on the market that do not require such effort to make them work.

Like another reviewer, my bag broke while it was loaded, and I was trucking along.I packed a textbook, 16oz H20, 16oz coffee, and a Dell Precision M6400 with power brick and mouse.It fits, but the plastic clips that attach the bag to the shoulder strap are crap.One broke under the load and I found out something else.While the back panel is padded to protect your humongous laptop, the edges are not padded.So when the bag decided to free fall, it landed on the corner of my laptop.So far, the only damage to the laptop is a dented corner.The laptop corner actually cut through the bag's canvas, and so there is a cut on the bottom of the bag now.The dent is bad enough that I almost soiled myself when I saw it.To Dell's credit, the laptop seems to be functional.

Thanks a lot High Sierra, for cheaping out on the most mechanically critical part of this bag.If they would have used a better resin, or even metal like a carabiner, this would not have happened.

Used these panniers on a 7 day ride.They are easy to pack and mount on the rack.Their 65 liter capacity handled all the gear I needed.Had one massive rainstorm, and the rain covers kept everything dry.The only thing that keeps me from rating these bags at 5 stars is that one of the bags fell off after hitting a series of bumps.After that experience, I used some 16 guage wire to tie the two panniers together (weaving the wire through the top of the rack).No problems after that.I would definitly recommend these bags (just be sure to use wire or rope to ensure that they stay on the rack!)

Axiom Gatherer Shopper Panniers Review

I got these panniers as an upgrade from the less-stylish, smaller ones I'd been using since July. While these panniers are made of sturdy material and are most definitely the size I was looking for, I've run into a few issues. First, each bag has a long, flexible plastic insert that you have to put in to stabilize them. If you don't have anything in the bag, the inserts fold in on themselves - so you have to prop them up again when you're ready to load something up.
Secondly, they come with velcro to secure the bottom back of the bag to the side of your rack, but the velcro is two separate pieces rather than one long one. I lost one side's velcro the very first day I used these.
Third, these are just almost too large. I have a 26" road bike. If I put even one sack of groceries in these, the larger sides, unstabilized, pooch out so that the magnetized snap has no chance of working. I have to fold the tops of the panniers into themselves to keep my stuff covered. Also, adding any weight to these makes them move around a lot more while you're biking. I've had to stop several times because the back corner of one has swung far enough around to get stuck in my spokes while I'm riding, resulting in a horrible noise. I'm worried they could break one of my spokes if they're heavy enough. I tried keeping them further up on the rack, but then I hit them with my feet while pedaling.
I'm switching back to my old, uglier, functional panniers. It's too bad, because these really are cute and the size was appealing...but the trouble isn't worth it.

Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier Review

I found this product to be a good solution for what I needed it to do--Carry my families ski's up to the slopes. There's not a lot of noise from wind aerodynamic issues, even at high speeds. It holds the skis firmly in place, and has a very easy to use open button & close snap. Although it may not be made of metal, it's sturdy enough that nothing moves in it.

This was by far a better option that several other systems I found, which offered too many parts & not a whole lot of value for the price they wanted. The factory installed ski rack which would have cost $300 was roughly the same size and was not as good a deal as this rack for my 2000 Dodge Durango.

In response to the previous two reviews, I must note a few corrections.

Firstly, the rack DOES hold two snowboards, I tested it with two of my friends snowboards on my last trip. In order for them to fit, one must face down and the other face up, one on top of the other. The individual who posted that it does not obviously didn't think to try stacking them.

Second, In response to the fact that the bar could simply be twisted--you're joking right? It would attract attention if an individual attempted to twist off the bar. On top of that, in order for them to twist off the bar, they would have to break the board/skis in the rack in the process, and that would defeat the purpose, would it not?

The only problem I had with this was the FM1 adapter which was required to install this carrier on my factory bars. The instructions for assembly didn't provide any information for any vehicles besides imports. (Domestic cars are out of luck since this is a Sweden based company!)

Bought this a few weeks ago for my '97 Ninja 600.Fits fairly well, but the back does not make it all the way to the ground (about 6 inches short).I think this would be a problem with any sport bike.

Bottom line, it keeps the rain off and has bungees to hook across the bottom so the cover doesn't get blown off.Has a storage pouch sewn to the inside of the cover which is a nice touch because I'd probably lost it otherwise.

Would have given it 5 stars if the back was a few inches taller.

Okay, this "fairing" looks cool on top of my Toyota Tacoma and it hides the roof rack.However, it does very little to cut down on wind noise.I was really surprised at how much noise it still allows.Instead of thumping the roof, the wind now whooshes loudly.If you don't have the music on, it takes some getting used to.Without the ski rack on top, it is easily stolen by unscrewing the bolts (although I don't know who would steal a 38" X 3.5" piece of plastic).It's amazing what we buy to make things look "cool".Thule also makes nice looking `fairings'.

Yakima KingPin Bike Rack Review

We needed a way to haul three adult-sized bicycles from our home base to various cycling paths. So I visited a number of local stores to see what my options were. I settled on the Yakima BigHorn 4 as the best option for my budget, then discovered through some online searching that I could purchase the next model up, the Yakima KingPin 4 bike rack for a bit less than the BigHorn 4 would run me in a traditional retailer.

The KingPin 4 folds features a fold-down mast, a must convenience to allow access to a vehicle's rear hatch or door. Although I would not consider a bike rack without this feature, be forewarned: once you lower the rack while it's loaded with three bikes (more about the fourth bike claim follows), you will be hard pressed to single-handedly reposition it and slide in the lock or bolt. There is too much weight on that pivot point.

I soon learned, therefore, that it was easier to have the mast folded up, not down, when loading the bikes.

The dual bike arms are a must, allowing for more stability and easier loading and unloading. The bike arms fold down as well, though this option, while useful, is not essential in many cases. (These folding bike arms are the main difference between the KingPin and BigHorn racks.)

A series of bike cradles and rubber "chainstraps" stabilize and anchor the bikes. You can slide theses cradles along the tubular arms to allow sufficient room to avoid any rubbing or scraping if you are carrying three bikes. (I looked as some less expensive racks that required hand-tightening one or more big bolts to tighten clamps that held the bikes. That system seemed like a royal pain and huge annoyance.)

Despite the name and billing, I'm less confident in recommending the KingPin4 for transporting four bikes. I think it's possible, but would require great care to avoid scraping paint or entangling pedals and spokes. Plus, I prefer using four "chainstraps" per bike for a bit of insurance, so if you want to carry four bikes, I would recommend springing for another set of these.

The unloaded contraption weights about 32 pounds, so it's not too heavy as you carry it from the basement or garage to install it. But be careful of the arms or you might shatter the glass in a door or an outside light. Also, you need to do a bit of assembly out of the box, so allow a good 30 minutes to set up and test the rig before using it the first time. The drawings in the instructions did not seem to match what I was actually looking at when I had everything before me on the floor, so I spent an extra few minutes considering the options. This assembly is not difficult---it's just that adage "never do anything for the first time" may stump one for a bit.

I am using this rack with a two-inch hitch, and I purchased a locking pin to replace the bolt that is shipped for attaching the rack to the hitch. I also run one of the cable bike locks through the bike frames and around the spanner between the arms to add a measure of security.

During our first foray, a 100-mile trip each way, the bikes and rack swayed just a bit from time to time, but overall, the sway was not a problem. Having a hundred extra pounds jutting up behind the rear window will change any vehicle's handling and hamper visibility through the rearview mirror, so be prepared to change your driving style as needed.

To conclude, the KingPin 4 has performed well. We could load and unload three bikes in about five minutes, and neither the Durango or bikes were scratched during transport. But, again, I would suggest that this rack is great for three bikes, but may be a challenge for carrying four.

Yakima Rattler Wheelstrap 1 pair Review

I had to buy a pair of these after a friend donated a Yakima rack to me that was missing the straps. These are made of very heavy duty plastic, and the ratcheting action on them will clamp your tires down as tight as you need to. I just hope they stand up to a few years of being in the rain, sun, heat and cold.

(Update, 6 months later) One word of caution. Because these are made of some kind of plastic, DO NOT torque them down really really tight on your wheels, or else the teeth of the strap can get worn down in one spot. This can make the buckle jam and make it almost impossible to release. You'll be looking for a utility knife to cut the thing off. I was carrying a heaving old Schwinn on my roof, and tightened mine down a little too much. Almost didn't get it back off.

I bought two of these Wheel Arches for my wife and myself. First of all they do not support the bikes like Saris claims. We put the racks together and the arches allowed the bikes to fall to one side. After this we tried one arch and the bike setting in this arch did fall over. I contacted Saris but wasn't satisfied with their response, that the arches would do what they were designed to do. We also sent photo's of bikes falling over with the arches wrapped around the wheels. Contacted Saris again and was told the arches were to support bike during storage. Obviously a photo of the arch wrapped around the wheel of a bike lying on the ground didn't suffice.So instead of going through all the hassle of sending them back I just took them to my friend whois re-engineering them. I was very disappointed with the arches. I was surprised at this because I own a T -Rax 700 bike rack and it is a nice rack and well worth the money we spent on it.

Received the Hard truck and it appears well built and was triple packed.One major problem.The dimensions given at amazon and every other site including the manufacturer are incorrect and
misleading.When viewed from lock end the "Width" (which matches width of your scooter or motorcycle when installed) is actually the 16.5 inch dimension.The depth along long axis of motorcycle
is actually about 14 inches not 12.5 and for me the major error is the trunk is not 7 inches tall but about 10 inches.I have sent manufacturer an email about this but received no response. They had however up on my request sent a picture with dimensions shown and this picture showed correct width and length but showed "total" height again as 7 inches when it actually measures 10 inches.I have decided to go ahead and install on my Vulcan 500 but would have much preferred the 7 inch height I had expected. Otherwise looks to be well worth the Amazon price.

The Jandd frame pack has been exactly what I sought when I made the purchase.It allows me to get rid of other smaller bags (wedge bags, Bento boxes).The only "issue" I've had is that the frame pack is larger than I expected.It fits perfectly on my 58 road bike frame but is too large for a small-frame (50-52) triathlon bike.Other than that, it's great.

Yakima FarOut Rooftop Cargo Bag Review

I just purchased this Yakima FarOut Cargo Bag. I will be using it for a 5,500 mile round trip coming up. I'll give my first impressions here, and later, by May 20th, I'll update how it has performed for the first 2,750 miles. I have a 2009 Toyota Camry with Yakima Rr Tracks, Yakima Landing Pad Base for Yakima Control Towers (1), and Yakima Control Tower - Set of 4s already installed. I also have a Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box on top but needed a little more space to put stuff in, (I have to carry around enough stuff for myself, my wife, and my newborn for the next 6 months). I am putting the Bag on the side of the SkyBox. My plan is to put everythingI will be using at the hotels inside of the Bag so that I can unstrap it from the racks and carry the whole Bag in every-time we stop, instead of having to carry a bunch of individual items in from the car for every temporary hotel stop. We'll see how the plan plays out. But as for now. Let me give you my first impressions and stay tuned for future updates on performance:

First Impressions:

The Bag quality seem great. It says it keeps rain and bugs out an I believe it. The material is heavy and of high quality. It has 2 different ways to hook it up to your bars, either sideways or longways, nice feature. I'm doing long ways so it fits next to my SkyBox. Inside is mostly just open space, there is a small compartment on one of the sides which is nice for small items you want to keep at easy reach. There looks to be a a lot of space inside. There is a hefty double zipper too close the top plus fold down flaps that folds down over the zipper. Velcro holds down this flap, and to top it all off, there are 4 adjustable straps that both help hold the flap down and will squish down the top if you don't get it all full.

So far, I am very impressed, I only wish it had some type of locking mechanism (it may, I need to look through the instructions). But I will see what I can do to get it locked onto my bars, plus a zipper lock.

Update 3 July 2010:
Okay, didn't get back to finishing up this review as fast as I wanted to, but here it is.
So as you know I was initially impressed by the quality. Well that has not changed and I am so glad I bought this. I ended up being able to squeeze it nicely on the roof by my skybox. It actually turned out to be the most used item during the trip across the US. It has enough space to fit all the belongings my wife, child, and I need at a hotel. We stayed at 6 hotels during our journey and the the cargo bag became a life saver. Each time we arrived at a hotel, I'd get the wife and child to the room, then I'd come back out for the cargo bag. Unstrapping the cargo bag from the roof I then plop in onto a hotel dolly for transport and roll it into our room. I preferred using a dolly as the bag was around 100lbs. But I was surprised to find out that the bag actually had backpack straps for carrying, this was a big help at the few hotels without a dolly.
In the mornings we'd pack almost everything back into the cargo bag and I'd get it strapped up on top of the roof again. It really sped up our unloading and loading times because I didn't have to make 50 million trips to the car. That bag literally took care of 4-6 trips to the car.
It held up against all types of weather, and lots of bugs. I am truely impressed and satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it. I do have to say that I would not recommend cramming it with 100lbs of stuff and plan to walk 5 miles with it. It's not that type of backpack, but it will let you get your stuff into a hotel if you don't have a dolly. I also have to say that there is no way my wife could have handled the weight of that bag. So for people in the not so buff category, pack it lighter if you plan to remove it from the roof of your vehicle. Also, do be careful about how much you do put in it. While I think the bag could easily handle 200+ pounds, most roofs can't do above 100lbs without bending. I could see our sun roof being pushed down when I loaded it, but nothing serious. All in all, great purchase, would purchase again, and again.

Axiom Odyssee Disc Compatible Rear Rack Review

I received this rack yesterday. This morning it took about an hour to install. It is well made and sturdy. The rack is intended to fit bikes with rear disc brakes, so it is configured for a variety of set-ups. Because of this, you can't just pop it on the bike and tighten it up. It takes a few minutes and a few small adjustments to get it just right. I have to say, though, it was never frustrating attaching it. Once I decided how it would best fit my bike it was just a matter of few minutes of tightening and adjustment. Looks great. Seems as sturdy as other high quality racks I've used and seen. I recommend it if you have a bike with rear disc brakes. (I have a Jamis Coda Elite)

Yakima Bow/Stern Tie Down Review

I purchased these tie-down straps with a full rack and canoe kit. The tiedows were very pricey, but they claimed they cam with a protective tube over the ropes to prevent paint scratches.

Let me save you some trouble- Don't bother with these. Get some normal tie-down straps or even some good rope, and wrap them in a towel or cloth. The plastic rope covers scratched the paint on my car very badly, and didn't really offer any other benefit.

The one good feature about these straps is the ratcheting system- When you pull the rope tighter, a ratchet locks it into place until the ratchet lever is pulled. This isn't to say it replaces a good cargo strap, since the rope does tend to come loose, but with some good knot tying, you can get it pretty solid.

Overall, the product quality is as expected, but in the end it was a waste.

Thule 684 Terrapin Hitch Mount Luggage Box Review

I must have shopped 3 months for the best price on this storage box. I really wanted to support the loacal shop here in Denver, Rack Attack, but after repeated attempts to get them to match the before tax price of the Amazon product, I decided to just buy it from Amazon. It was also annoying that if I was willing to pay the extra money for their box that they wanted to charge me an additional amount to have them assemble and install it. In all, I saved about $80 by buying it from Amazon.

I could not have been more happy with the purchase experience. It was delivered as agreed and in perfect condition.

The box itself took about 2 hours to assemble and install. Not very difficult, but certainly time consuming. Also, unless you are okay with semi-heavy lifting, you should probably do this with another person. The box fit perfectly into my 2007 4-Runner hitch. The only problem was that I needed an adapter from 7 pin to 4 pin to get the brake lights to work. I had to buy this from Wal-Mart for $18.

Lastly, after installation, only one of the brake lights was working. After about 20 minutes of inspection, I realized that when I was assebling the box I had accidentally disconnected one of the brake light wire assemblies. It's easy to do if you're not careful...somewhat of a design flaw. Once reconnected, the box worked like a charm.

I am very happy with the purchase and recommend it to anyone looking for a little extra cargo space for road trips.

Arrived very timely. Not too difficult to put up by a single mom who doesn't like technical things but took me a bit to figure it out - would've helped having two people setting it up. Only problem I have is getting it closed, you have to slam it hard for it too catch. Did notice a little high pitch whining with racks loaded and lost about 3-4 mpg with it. It would be a pain to take off and on every ski trip so going to leave it on for duration of ski season. Happy with it but almost wish I had gone for the yakima fat man for a lower profile rack instead.Kids love the decals.

I have a pair of these panniers in "Petrol" which is a turquoise and green pattern. If you go to the Basil website, you can actually see the range of patterns that they offer - many of them are really cute - though there aren't many US businesses selling them.
The bags attach to a standard rear rack. There are four fabric belts that loop around and cinch on the side railings of your rack - two on each side. There are velcro loops on the inside (toward the wheel) that you can loop around the supports of the rack, just above your rear wheel axle. The bags close with two adjustable snap belts on each side. Another reviewer commented that the bags are not easy to remove - that is fairly accurate. If you are concerned about theft and want to easily be able to pop the bags off when getting to your destination, this probably isn't for you. On the other hand, a thief would have to hang out at the bike stand for awhile in order to make off with them. I have just left mine on when parking my bike, and so far, no one has messed with them. There are no mounting instructions with the bag, so you have to figure it out, but it is pretty simple. The bags can fold flat against the sides, and come with a reinforcement panel that you can set at the bottom to widen them out to their full size. This could be handy if you needed to empty the bags and narrow the profile of your bike for parking. I haven't left my bike out in a rainstorm with these on, but they have gotten damp and I expect that they will hold up well to rain.
Another reviewer expressed concern about the corners of the bags getting caught on the spokes of the back wheel and presenting a safety concern. I have not had this problem- there is ample clearance on my bike between the inside of the bags and the wheel, and they have not gotten in the way at all.
I also have a metal basket on the front of my bike, but I greatly prefer using the panniers. Loading the front basket makes steering difficult, but putting extra weight low over the back wheel doesn't seem to cause adverse effects.
These are a great size for toting some groceries or books for everyday errands. Those looking for panniers for long-distance biking won't want these as they are not as large as other items out there for substantial amounts of gear.
Overall, I love these bags and would recommend them to anyone who wants a small, cute, fun set of panniers for their bike.

Be careful of what you ask for, however, since one drawback is that it is not particularly expandable.There are some mesh pockets (up front toward the seat post and up top) that are useless once the bag is full, since with the bag bulging they don't have any room.I do wish there was a pocket up top.

The side and end pockets are adequate.

Overall, I am happy with the bag, although it does have a hard limit on how much you can stuff in.My last bag was more "overstuff" flexible, but droopy.I think I am happier with the solid non-drooping bag and can live with the lack of flexibility.

I took a flier on this bag.I couldn't find any reviews on this or any similar bag, but it was one of the most attractive bags I had seen and at about $67 including shipping it was worth the risk.

FIRST IMPRESSION
Right out of the box it seemed substantial and well made.My one complaint would be that the backer board felt a little bendy.It came with a ton of inserts of different sizes to fine tune them for the exact gauge of your rack (nice).Also impressed with the Solen Locking System.It actually locks, with a key! Also there is no bungee with hook as a third point of contact.Instead there is a grove along the bottom of the bag that sits on a disc shaped attachment that remains on your rack.Comes with a strap.It is typical waterproof material with a standard roll seal and a flap over the top of it .There is another velcro flap on the back that covers the hooks when carrying with the strap.

SETUP
The inserts for the hooks allow the locking system to be effective.If you get the correct ones in the hooks the Solen system is surprisingly secure.The disc attaches to the rear stay of your rack.It won't work unless you have 11 inches between the rail that the top hooks sit on and the spot where the disc attaches to the support. The disc attachment is cumbersome.It needs room to attach around the stay and behind.If you are buying a rack too I would suggest one that has a third stay on the back.

PLACEMENT
It is really easy.you really just have to place the bag on the rack.It finds the disc at the bottom and clicks in nice and snug on top.No fumbling to attach a bungee hook at the bottom.It doesn't rely on friction or a stressed bungee to be secure it just fits.

Well done.I am buying another.

Kettler Travel Tour Rolling Bicycle Pannier Set Review

If you want a small bag of some kind to clip to your rear rack the varity out there is endless. If you want anything larger, the options turn quite poor. I work in a city in Japan so it is safe for me to bike every day, and registering a car or motorcycle as a foreigner is miserable. It is rather strange that I am in one of the few decent sized Japanese cities that does not have a subway or train system. So alot of my travel to and from the office, and shopping, and running errands now-a-days happens on an electric bike I bought here in Japan (awesome by the way). Grocery shopping on a bike can be not so fun if you want to carry much home with you. I know I am in an odd situation, noone else will have my reasons for wanting a large set of panniers, but anyone who reads this will have their own unique reason for needing the space, and that is what we have in common.
As a guy who uses my panniers every day, I love this set. The side bags are only about 6" wide, 10" long, and 13" tall but they make the most of that space by not being so narrow that it's difficult to fit odd sized items in the bags. The next most important point about the side bags is that (although they can be folded flat if dissassembled) they are not shapeless bags without support. These bags have a full system of plastic inserts that support the bottom, top, and every side - as well as a wire reinforcing frame at the top. They are almost hard sided bags, almost. Because the top is enforced by a plastic sheet, it forms an extension of your bike rack so that you have a flat deck across the top of the bags that is roughly two square feet. I usually use my side bags without the rolling top bag and the appearance and funtion is still that of a complete stand alone product. When I do use the top bag I usually use it as a suitcase, I travel alot for work and sometimes bike to or from the office the same day that I cab to or from the airport. The rolling top bag is big on the inside but fits well in the overhead storage on a plane, it is just about the right size for two nights out of town. The rolling case gives up nothing in terms of quality or appearance to normal travel luggage. That is one thing that actually did suprise me about the Kettlers. As someone looking for a storage solution I had hopes of how the pannier set would perform. The fact that they lived up to my needs is a pleasant suprise. Beyond that though, the level of engineering and the amount of thought that obviously went into the design and constuction of the bags is heartening in this day and age. There is no doubt that these bags were definitely not made in china. I wish Kettler made more of the things I buy and use on a daily basis.
Truly, great bags. Built to last.

Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag Review

I've been using my medium timbuk2 messenger bag for the past 2 years. Frankly, I think large is way too big. Even medium is a bit much for my 5'3" frame. Let me give you an idea of how much a medium bag can hold: 2 thick textbooks, a 15" laptop in casing, lunch, portable mug/water bottle, gym clothes + sneakers. So in short, it's perfect for those who leave early in the morning and don't get home until the evening. It has enough various-sized pockets on the inside and outside of the bag to feed all my compulsive needs. It works also exceptionally well as a carry-on and overnight or weekend trips. The bag is certainly durable and stylish with an added bonus of having the option to customize the color blocks. I liked that about timbuk2 bags -- crumpler bags seemed a little boring. And to clarify, timbuk2 bags are waterproof in a sense that the contents of your bag will not get wet; but the bag will, because it is the inner lining of the bag that is waterproof, not the outer material. Once the bag dries, it's as good as new, but I now spray my bag with a water-repellent from time to time.

If you decide to buy a medium or large, definitely shell out a few more bucks for a padded strap, because while the strap is nice and wide, it provides zero cushioning for your shoulders.

I was able to easily mount these brackets on a flat surface on a utility trailer and they worked perfectly with the support bars.They are heavy duty, have a good finish, and were easily mounted in horizontal or vertical position - I wasn't sure which I was going to need to do when I started.They worked great in this non-standard situation.

Very easy to install. The rubber pad that mounts under the exterior bracket plate is a great feature.

The cue holder works as advertised--the plastic clip holds your directions firmly--but there does not seem to be any grip on the handlebar.The strap is very simple and innovative in that it is velcro and sticks to itself and is completely adjustable, but it slips and slides on the handlebar.Perhaps they could've included some velcro rubber grips.I have some rubber strips that came with a bike headlight, and they seem to work well with this product if you make the strap as tight as possible.

I really like the idea behind this cue holder because I would always keep a slip of paper with directions in my camelbak, and it was difficult to reach.Now I can put my directions right in front of me the entire time.However, for the price, I wish it not only had a firm grip on my directions but also on my handlebar.

Topeak RX Trunk Bag DXP Review

yes I know, I read that it was just over 1,000 cu inches.But this bag is really small and the picture doesn't do it justice.A better picture would be of the bag on the bike, with some frame of reference.
I was planning on using it for commuting, but there is no chance that I could get work clothes (think sweater and pants) and lunch into this.It's really small. I got lucky and had a friend who was looking for just such and bag and was able to sell it to him rather than send it back.

The expandable panniers are probably the smallest panniers on the market, and should probably be referred to as expandable pockets, because one is just barely large enough to hold a stuffed down rain jacket.
This would be suitable if you were looking to ride somewhere with a 6 pack, and maybe a paperback and some snacks.
The quality is very good and the integration with the TopPeak rack system is great.However, it's really small and not suitable for commuting unless you don't have to take hardley anything with you.

I've been using two of these bags for my daily commute for 6 months now with great success. Their stiff handles make it easy to carry & connect to my rack. Although my commute has a short distance off road on a rough track, the bags stay on very securely. They frequently get muddied & they wash off easily. It is not "waterproof",but it has kept my clothes dry in long downpours. The large opening on the top makes it easy to pack as well as find things. My medium sized laptop fits in it easily along with my papers, purse, lunch sack & clothes.Because it is so easy to take on & off my rack, I use it for grocery shopping & it has become my grocery bag in the store. If I'm not riding, I still use it for carrying my laptop & purse, as a replacement for a briefcase.

Sunlite Traveler 2 Bicycle Pannier Bags Review

Okay, so the only suggestion I have is make sure these bags are fastened securely and if not don't attempt to re-seat the bag without stopping should it come loose during travel (just use common sense and you'll be fine).That being said, my brand new right pannier just went through my rear wheel at about 20mph and came out with no tears, rips or really any problems.There are a couple of small black scuff marks on the reflector but that's it.
I on the other hand have a bruised back, concussion and countless sore points on my body but this review is on the panniers.
The fact that these are 2 seperate bags make the value virtually unbeatable.My first impression of the material was, "Wow, I didn't expect it to be this heavy-duty."When the bag went through my wheel, I really couldn't believe how well it held up.Did I mention that the bag was full, no contents inside were damaged or really even disturbed but my rim is bent beyond belief and must be replaced.
I highly recommend these bags due to the quality and value!

Love this pannier (I have it in green, which isn't available at the moment) - and get complimented on it all the time. Having a pannier that I could easily remove and use as a shopping and/or school bag was important to me, and this one fits the bill. It's solidly constructed, well-designed and very roomy (fits a bunch of groceries or several books/binders with ease, and the handles are long enough to fit, albeit snugly, over my shoulder). Reflective panels are an added safety bonus. I only use one on one side and have found that to be sufficient so far as I typically carry a purse or messenger bag separately. I don't know yet how water-resistant it is; it's not sealed at the top front/back so it may require a rain cover, which unfortunately isn't included.

Just what I was looking for! The name may say Repair/Display stand, BUT I use it 95% for holding the bike when not in use. I will use it for cleaning, and maybe some repair. I needed a stand to store my mountain bike that does not have a kickstand. I've been leaning it against the wall when home, and against my vehicle when starting and finishing a ride. I've scraped the wall, scratched the vehicle (as the bike slid down) and in one really tricky move, managed to break a tail light. So something clearly needed to be done. I tried a less expensive model but it didn't work with my bike. But this stand has a rail type holder instead of the cheaper hook, on the bottom, and it is just perfect. Light and easy to take with me, but sturdy and supportive when in use.

I bought this thinking that it could handle my newish bike which weighs only about 30lbs.Wrong, I screwed it into a metal stand post and placed my light weight bicycle onto it, and ugh.It barely holds up.The metal that makes up the arm starts to kink up at the base, and now the whole thing sags.I guess that is what you get when paying under 20 bucks.Fortunately there is a beefier and much more expensive wall mount bike stand but it costs over 10X as much, which sucks because there is no middle ground.Park Tool PRS-4W Deluxe Wall Mount Repair Stand
There are other cheap wall mount bike hangers, but they also look sub par.

I like this stand mainly because it is taller than many stands.You can get your bike's drive train, or brakes, or whatever right up to face level to make it easier to work on.This is not a good stand if you plan to work sitting down because it might not go as low as you want it too (though you could cut it if you really need to).However, it is a great stand to use if you work standing up.Everything on the stand works well.The bike clamp is especially good.It is also a very stable stand, and the legs fold up so it doesn't take up as much space when you aren't using it.My favorite bike dealer sold me one of these for $150 because I buy a lot of stuff from him, and he just wanted to give me a good deal on something.I was looking to buy a cheaper stand, but the price reeled me in.I am glad I bought it.This stand is perfect for me.Very heavy duty for a home stand, and adjusts so you can get the bike up high so you can work on it without bending over.
